As a Chalet Chef with Ski Cuisine, you’ll have the opportunity to bring your own flair, creativity and passion for great food to the heart of the chalet experience.

About the role

Your role as Chalet Host with Ski Cuisine is to oversee the running of an individual chalet, this will include taking responsibility for all housekeeping duties and ensuring your guests are well cared for throughout their stay. As a Chalet Host you will work alongside a Chef who will be responsible for the menu planning and running of the chalet kitchen. However, your jobs will overlap and we would expect you to assist each other in your work so that you run your chalet efficiently and professionally.

As a team, the chalet host and chef will create a warm and friendly atmosphere so that guests enjoy the high standards of personal service for which Ski Cuisine is renowned. Our aim is that each guest experiences superior service in every aspect of their holiday which we hope will exceed their expectations.

Your responsibilities

  • Housekeeping (Daily cleaning of all bedrooms, bathrooms, communal areas, laundry room, ski room etc)
  • Ensuring the chalet is presented to a high standard inside and out
  • Maintaining efficient stock levels of all chalet products
  • Laying the dining table for all meals served in the chalet
  • Serving drinks and at all meals, assisting the chef where necessary in the kitchen during meals
  • Arranging for all bed linen to be sent to the laundry on a weekly basis, ensuring that any “in house” chalet laundry is completed efficiently
  • Ensuring a warm welcome to your guests on arrival at the chalet and showing them to their rooms and around the chalet. Confident presentation of a welcome speech with your chalet chef in order to welcome and explain the day to day services offered to the guests and provide local resort information to ensure the guests have the best holiday experience.
  • Liaising with the Resort Manager and awareness on local social media to ensure you are aware of all the up to date resort, weather, lift status and general guest information
  • General hosting of the guests ensuring they are comfortable and have all their requirements met, serving drinks and ensuring the chalet is presented to an exceptional standard with attention to the final details to meet the guests’ expectations (such as lighting the fire, the correct lighting is effected to create a warm and cozy ambiance, curtains drawn, etc)
  • Ensuring that the evening menu & weather board is presented to guests each morning at breakfast
  • Maintaining a high standard of personal presentation is required at all times, wearing Ski Cuisine uniform and a professional, calm and friendly demeanour is expected of all Ski Cuisine staff
  • Remove and dispose of all rubbish, glass bottles and recycling twice per day after each service

Pre-requisites/Requirements

  • Preferably applicants will hold either an EU passport (copy required on application) or a Carte/Titre de Sejour allowing the applicant to work in France
  • If applicant holds neither of the above but hold a UK passport you must be prepared to undertake the visa application process which will involve various applications in conjunction with Ski Cuisine, attending visa appointments in the UK and in France (usually out of work hours) and medical appointments in France for which the applicant must be willing to incur some of the costs involved. UK passport holders must have at least 6 months valid on the expiry date of the passport from entry into France (ie 30 May 2027 or later). A copy of the passport is required upon applying for the position of Chalet Host
  • C2 level English for non-native English applicants
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Previous experience of working within hospitality with an emphasis on housekeeping
  • Be able to work as part of a team and have a flexible approach to your work and colleagues
  • Reliability, confidence and ability to work independently
  • Aptitude to put the needs of the guests first and to provide anything and everything before they even know they want it!
  • Excellent time management and punctuality
  • Ability to prioritize, plan ahead & work well under pressure
  • Be well presented at all times and wear the Ski Cuisine uniform
  • A mature and professional attitude towards seasonal “culture”
  • Candidates must hold a Level 2 food & hygiene certificate and a copy will be required (Ski Cuisine will recommend an online qualification recognised in France)
  • To be able to prepare and cook breakfast and afternoon tea cakes in the eventuality of chef absence, in case of emergencies if a chef is unable to attend morning service at late notice. In the case of dinner, Ski Cuisine would source an alternative chef to cater for the guests however at short notice the host must be confident to take responsibility for breakfast, potentially on their own until back up help is found. This would be a rare occurrence but never the less this can happen occasionally.
  • A valid medical insurance policy cover for France for the period of employment which must include mountain rescue and repatriation to your home country if you are unable to travel independently following accident or illness

Job package

  • Salary per Contract of Employment - Fixed term French contract – Net monthly 1530.32€ - 35 hours per week (net pay includes 2.5 days’ paid holiday per month)
  • Accommodation in a shared bedroom in the staff chalet is provided, with a communal sitting & kitchen area. All staff are expected to keep this clean and tidy, a rota will be arranged to ensure that everyone does their fair share. A cash deposit of 200€ must be paid by the staff member to Ski Cuisine upon arrival in resort. Bed linen, towels & bedding are provided
  • Food supplied (on work days) one meal per day and breakfast
  • Ski or snowboard equipment for the season
  • Travel to and from resort at the beginning and end of the season are at your own cost – you will be able to arrive a day or two before our training course begins in order to settle in to Meribel and we will notify of the day you must depart. Dates to be agreed in due course and must be adhered to.
  • Lift pass – a reduced price season lift pass of your choice can be purchased prior to the season starting and the information about this will be explained to you
  • Two days off per week (usually one whole day plus two half days of which you will be notified in advance)
  • Ski Cuisine branded outdoor jacket & gilet, polo shirts, black shirts for dinner service & aprons are supplied, to be worn during working hours, with appropriate head wear for your hair style/length, minimal jewelry to be worn during work hours
