Travelling to Meribel from the UK

10 October 2016

Preparation for the busy winter season is well under way and we recommend that you pre-book travel well in advance to secure the best prices.

Travelling to Meribel is easy and there are many options. The most convenient form of transport for many of our guests is flying. Meribel is served by many major flight operators and airports and if you’re not one to book a package holiday then why not take advantage of one of the many DIY options. Skyscanner is a good place to start and can be used to find flights across all of the operators travelling from any departure airport.

Nearest Airports to Meribel

Meribel can be accessed from any of the following airports:

Chambery is the closest of the airports (90 mins) and is convenient and a small airport that can make travelling with children easier.

Geneva (2.5 hours) is served by the most frequent flights and can also be the cheapest option. Transfers can be picked up readily from here with more options than the other airports.

Grenoble (2 hours) is a good option for many travellers. If travelling to this airport we would recommend hiring a car as shuttle buses are infrequent. When hiring a car ensure you have your up to date Sat Nav with you just in case, although once leaving the Motorway near Meribel the resort is well signposted.

Lyon (2 hours) is also just a few hours' drive from Meribel, but this journey can take longer in heavy traffic during the peak holiday season. Most of the route in on the motorway so is reasonably straight forward if you hire a car or book a private transfer.

Where should I fly from?

Direct flights are available to Meribel throughout the year but are much more frequent through the winter months, with Geneva and Lyon only offering flights to and from the UK in the summer months.

As with booking any flights, the further out you book the better prices should be available. To check flights from your local airport a good place to start is Skyscanner. Once checked on here it is always worth checking direct on the airlines website as you might save yourself a few pounds

To make it really easy for you, here are list of some of the airports that you can fly DIRECT to Geneva from including which airline you can book with (example is based on travelling on the 7th January for 7 nights)

Meribel by Car

It’s also possible to drive to Meribel. If you are likely to be travelling with a lot of luggage then this may be the best option as extra sports equipment costs on flights can be expensive. The journey is approximately 600 miles and normally takes 8-10 hours depending on traffic (from Dover) and is very well sign posted once you leave the motorway, following the directions to Meribel.

A few things to remember

If you are making the journey with your own car you will need to ensure that you plan for driving in icy and snowy conditions. Also, you will need to ensure that you check you have all the compulsory equipment with you, which you can check on the AA website and that with or without a 4 x 4 you may need chains for your tyres.

By train

If travelling to Meribel by train, the direct Eurostar can get you to within 30 minutes of the resort. London to Moutiers (via Paris or Lille) is approximately 10-11 hours travel time and can be a relatively low cost option.
